Tore Hovde
Maria Jardardottir
Soiled springs out of the collaboration between the two Norwegians, guitarist Tore Hovde and voice musician Maria Jardardottir, who started working together in 2002 running The Icicle Quartet. What has come out of their collaboration is the present concept Soiled which can be seen as a duo project that also at times features additional musicians, - such as for instance the brilliant and versatile Norwegian drummer Ståle Birkeland.
“- Soiled: adjective: Covered or stained with or as if with dirt or other impurities.”
Soiled performs original music; semi-composed, free and guided, and is largely drawing upon the compilation of song-based material of Jardardottir as well as Hovde’s tuneful and ambushing pieces. The influences on their material can be found under a wide-ranging and colourful umbrella covering extended instrument techniques and noise exploration, contemporary jazz harmony, folky and catchy melody lines, dark and saucy moods and grooves, thoughtful lyrics or thoughtful absence of lyrics and a sparse use of electronics.
