| Røyst has enjoyed extensive press coverage in the last couple of years, particularly in Norway and in the USA. In addition to noteworthy interest from newspapers Røyst has carried out performances and interviews for radio and television.
Here is a selection of quotes from newspaper articles and other features on Røyst: High Plains Reader, July 2004 (Interview with Sylvia Pratt, director of Scandinavian Hjemkomst Festival, Fargo): ‘...They mix originals and Norwegian song to make a sound that is rooted in the past, but is undeniably fresh and contemporary. ...The younger crowd might be quicker to notice similarities to the likes of Björk...’ Regionavisa, June the 29th 2005 (pre commentary of concert for Dei Nynorske Festspela): ’… The out door arena will however be filled with good harmonies and timbres when the vocal group Røyst performs originally written and improvised music with their voices as their only instruments.’ Tidens Krav, 11th of July, 2005 (Concert review of Røyst’s concert in Tingvoll Church 9th of July 2005): ’... They are in their mid twenties, they are beautiful and humorous and by all means inventive. The ensemble Røyst turned out to provide us with an experience we never had had similar to before. They were truly special in their own style, with originally composed music infused by both Norwegian folk tunes and singing styles from various countries, jazz, improvisations and exciting harmonies. They are brave and daring both in their arranging and their choice of repertoire. And not the least they are educated, skilful and distinct. They appeared as very professional and happy artists who elegantly presented their material.’ Comment on Røyst from Dei Nynorske Festspela 2005’s program: ’... They are difficult to categorize compared to other well known vocal ensembles. With their beautiful voices and imaginative style Røyst will create a unique atmosphere in the out door arena of Aasen-tunet on the opening day of the festival.’ Romsdals Budstikke, July the 18th 2005 (on Norsk Fjellfestival’s ): ’... The a capella group Røyst added wonders with their musical contributions inspired by Norwegian folk music and jazz.’ |
