Four voices
Røyst vocal quartet was established in Leeds in England 2002 where the four original members, Kari Nergaard Bleivik, Therese Ulvan, Cecilie Giskemo and Maria Jardardottir met through music studies. In 2008 Therese, due to her growing commitment to her work in USA, left the group and was replaced by the brilliant Anna Stott. As sad as we were to see Therese leave, it was not without excitement that we presented Røyst's new line up, and thankfully so, to a thrilling response from our listeners in 2008. Røyst are now very happy to present new material and old material in new ways!

Røyst performs original music written and arranged by the members of the group. Each member has their very own sound that together as a group creates a unique vocal texture and a varied collection of compositions.
Their repertoire represents a versatile mix of influences and music styles:

- Passion and temperament from the traditional Norwegian folk music.
- Contemporary and traditional vocal jazz - with main emphasis on today’s multifunctional vocal techniques and timbres.
- Improvisation in a traditional manner, deriving from both jazz and folk music, as well as free improvisation.
- Various ethnic music and vocal styles from all over the world.
- Sonorities deriving from classical art music.
